The kick-off will be a collaboration between AIDS Services Center Coalition and The Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, with the presentation of the Reel Revolution Film Series. Three short films about HIV/AIDS -- "Fire & Hope," “Frame by Frame Fierce,” and “HIV Positive Voices” – will be followed by a discussion about HIV/AIDS in our community. The event will begin with an information fair from 6:00-7:00pm; the films will begin at 7 pm.
Fire & Hope is an inspiring documentary set to a driving hip-hop soundtrack that looks into the lives of young activists in South Africa who are fighting HIV/AIDS in their communities.
Frame By Frame Fierce was developed through a workshop process with a diverse group of 16-21 year-olds, including gay, bisexual, transgendered, HIV infected and affected, African-American, White and Latino youth. The young people explored issues around HIV/AIDS focusing on the difficulties youth face in protecting themselves. They created artworks expressing their fears, ideas and experiences regarding safer sex that make up the final video.
HIV Positive Voices
HIV Positive Voices is an Emmy-winning film that tells devastating effects of what it is like to live with HIV and cope with the social stigma, rigorous treatment regimen, and related health problems. Each of the four people profiled represents a different demographic segment and mode of HIV transmission. They have courageously chosen to speak out about their HIV status and become positive voices for prevention, treatment and action.
Suggested donation is $5-25, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds will support the work of the Kentucky Alliance and ASCC. Call (502) 558-3568 for more information.

The main speaker for this year’s

Aletha Fields. One of Louisville's most forthright
and unrestrained activist voices, Ms. Fields is also a civil rights
advocate, ordained minister, accomplished poet, and high school
English teacher. She has performed her acclaimed writing locally and
at justice rallies across the community and the United States. In
addition, she teaches in the University of Louisville’s Pan-African
Studies and English Departments. Ms. Fields recently recorded The
Fire This Time, the first in a trilogy of planned spoken word
projects. Her dynamic writing and passionate live performances have
been described as "spiritual and uplifting", "fiery hot and socially
conscious", "funky and unafraid", and "a voice of truth, clarity, and
insight.”
We're
delighted that Voices of Kentuckiana will perform at the Memorial
Service. Since 1994 Voices has charmed audiences with their

Started in 1988, World AIDS Day is designed to focus global attention on the HIV/AIDS epidemic and is commemorated around the world on December 1 by highlighting progress made in the battle against the epidemic and reminding people the AIDS crisis is not over and how much still needs to be done. World AIDS Day is a worldwide, annual observance to raise public awareness and educate people about HIV and AIDS. One day a year, we are not separated by agencies, politics, governments or geography. We are together. World AIDS Day is a chance to strengthen our commitment and to remember the estimated 30 million lives lost to this devastating global epidemic. World AIDS Day is about raising awareness, education and fighting prejudice. World AIDS Day is also important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done. This day we honor those living with HIV/AIDS as well as those who have died from the disease.
“Out of Sight, Out of Mind” The Red Ribbon is the international symbol of AIDS awareness. This year we challenge you to wear a red ribbon on December 1st and help make those around you aware that the AIDS crisis is not over.
In recognition of World AIDS Day there are several events in Kentuckiana including but not limited to those above. If you organization is hosting an event to commemorate World AIDS Day and you would like us to include the event on our website, please email: wad@asccinc.org
