World AIDS Day Service: A Memorial and Celebration of Life

Each year, Louisvillians gather together to remember those who have died of
HIV/AIDS and to honor those who are living with and fighting to end the
disease. The Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will include the
lighting of a memory candle, and a reading of the names of those who have
died of HIV/AIDS. The evening will begin with a reception offering offer
light food, beverages and an opportunity for fellowship. This year's
service will be held at:

Our friends at TARC have agreed to allow anyone wearing a red ribbon to
ride TARC for free on all day on December 1st, World AIDS Day.
We're delighted that VOICES of Kentuckiana will once again be performing musical selections. Since 1994 VOICES has charmed audiences with their unique sound and impressive musical talent. VOICES is a fully inclusive community chorus which performs music that is meaningful and inspiring.
AIDS Interfaith Ministries of Kentuckiana, Inc. (AIM) will present the 2011 Sister Mary Bennet Cecil Award. The award is presented annually to a person who has contributed significant time and energy to the Louisville HIV/AIDS community. She began her ministry in AIDS outreach at age 69. She passed away in September 2006 at the age of 89. She had been a member of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth for 69 years. A native of Marion County, Sister Mary Bennet was an advocate for persons affected by AIDS, and she was at the bedside of more than 100 people who died from AIDS or AIDS-related illness. She received several honors for her work with HIV/AIDS patients, including a Bell Award. In 1998 AIDS Interfaith Ministries of Kentuckiana (AIM) established the Sister Mary Bennet Cecil Award in honor of Sister Mary Bennet Cecil’s courage, commitment, love and faithfulness, and tireless work on behalf of men, women, and children with HIV and AIDS. She was also a founding member of AIM. She offered her life as a confidante, friend, and mentor to those touched by HIV/AIDS.The criteria for nomination of this award includes the following:
- A person or persons (or institution) who have contributed outstanding service to the care of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Kentuckiana.
- A person working for change in the attitudes of the religious community toward persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
- A person working with and educating the community at large on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
In 1998 Sister Mary Bennet Cecil was the first recipient of the award, followed by: Diane Wenderoth, Chip and Nancy Miller, James Hyde and Theresa Gordon-Case, Stacy Jaudon, Dr. Helen Dienes, Fr. Joseph E. Vest, Jean Decker, Jack Kersey, Daniel Coe, Dr. Karen Krigger, Chuck Rosenfield and Brad Hampton.

Presbyterian
From I-65 - Exit at the St. Catherine St.
exit in downtown Louisville. Proceed approximately 1/4 mile west on St.
Catherine to 4th St. and turn right. The church is one block north on the
right, at the corner of 4th and Kentucky.
From Broadway - Proceed along Broadway to
4th St. Go south 3 blocks on 4th St. to Kentucky St.
From the Highlands in Louisville - Take
Bardstown Rd. to Grinstead Dr. At Grinstead, go west. This street will first
become Winter and then Oak St. Follow Oak St. to Mary St. and veer right.
Proceed along Mary St. until it becomes St. Catherine St. Follow St.
Catherine to 4th St. and turn right. The church is one block north on the
right, at the corner of 4th and Kentucky.
Parking
In addition to on-street parking, parking is available:
-in the lots behind the church. Access is through the alley off Kentucky St.
just past the church
-in the Sons of the American Revolution lot. Access is from 5th St. or
Kentucky St. just west of 4th St.
-in the church lot at the southwest corner of 3rd St. and Kentucky St.
